Christmas feed had a whole other meaning this time last year. I would be thinking food, obviously - whereas now all I can consume is the Instagram feed.
If I can look back on this year 2018 it has opened so many doors. I grew from around 3k followers to nearly 7k followers this year. I’ve worked with some amazing brands and been to some dazzling events. Most importantly, I have come to realise that the creative world is for everyone.
I used to put myself down not giving myself hardly any credit for my skills. I had given freelance photography a shot, but to be honest, I hadn’t found my market. Never would I have thought that people would walk up to me at events and shout ‘flatlay queen’ or the amount of DM’s I receive asking me to talk on camera more because they love my voice and accent.
Remind yourself that the very thing you might try and ‘hide’ from people is what they actually love about you. Who cares about the gloss if there is no personality behind it? Ok, I will always put my best foot forward but also as humans we are allowed to be just that. Remember when you turn the camera on yourself to be kind and respectful, the way you’d be if you photographed a good friend. We all love a good angle - but most of us are not models and perhaps that is our most important strength?
I always try and support the smaller accounts because I know how frustrating it is to try and grow, I have tried giving advice on how to do that in my ‘help’ highlight - but to be honest - it is a commitment and no quick fix. Trust your own creative flair, you will be rewarded for your original style. Stand out in a good way!
So, what is my Christmas Wish year? Well, 2019 will hopefully be the year when I hit 10k and with that the ‘Swipe Up’ feature.
I will keep doing my giveaways to my gorgeous followers because I love the idea of giving something back. If we haven’t met yet but we chat on DM’s or you comment on my pics daily - then my aim is to have a coffee or a drink with you in the New Year. I love meeting up - I’m a social butterfly and there is always room under my wing!
Cheers to all you shining stars out there. Lots of love, Ina x
I’m starting my Autumn post with an image I created for Matalan through Tribe (the influencer app). My caption goes ‘there’s something quite magical about Autumn. The air changes and so does the mood. I feel it’s a new start, a new beginning…’ Do you feel that way about a new season?
Obviously I’m wearing a very cosy, rusty orange Matalan jumper - but do not miss the important accessory - yes, the cup of coffee! This cup is handmade in my hometown Lillehammer; by a small company called ’ment’. I like to surround myself with Scandi designs and influences, even after 15 years in the UK!
What else is new? Well, I’m not living in London full time anymore. I’m in my house in the New Forest. It’s a quiet pace of life here. I guess I spend less money and eat less food. The transition for Instagram, I don’t really think has been noticeable. Well, I shoot more flatlays as I don’t have endless visuals outside my front door. I am stunned at the amount of love I get for these images, and I am always happy to share my secrets, which aren’t actual secrets. Will be doing a joint IGTV with @stephyttravels in November covering all things flatlay. Stay tuned for that!
Let’s have a look at what I have created recently.
Instagram has now reached 1 billion monthly active users, which is just insane if you think about it. Like any community it does have it’s issues. I can mention hackers, robots, influencers with fake followers - too many ads, rubbish algorithms, etc, etc. My attitude is that I try and work as best I can within the space we are given. So many of these things are out of our control - so the only thing we can do is to create the best content we can. All though we are all guilty of jumping on trends, I made a post about individuality at the weekend. You can find it here!
What people respond to is sometimes not what they are expecting to see, but what they didn’t expect. Make sure it is a good surprise - where your hard work and creative flair shines through. You can better yourself, not for others but for yourself. If you are on Instagram you are likely obsessed with visuals. So make sure that if you are creating content, push your visuals, push your abilities and also think outside the box. We all steal a little from each other but we should all aim to be original and true to our own style.
Remember, you are sharing the site with 999,999,999 other human beings. It has to be good to be seen!
Cherio everybody. I have to go and practice what I preach!
We are halfway in June and already this month has been packed with eventful moments! I have been lucky to receive more sponsored content over on my Instagram which I do try and incorporate as much as possible into my usually, curated style without too much compromise. I have a ‘personal rule’ that only 1/3 of my posts should ever be sponsored, an ad or a promotion for any brand. I believe in keeping your integrity and authenticity - I am just lucky to be able to spend so much time being creative whether it’s photography missions or social media content. My recent clients are spread across so many different industries from fashion to beauty, dining experiences to jewellery. I also have a wedding coming up at the weekend, my only one this year. Here are my most popular posts this month: Do you recognise a theme?
Anyhow; I had a tour around Home House London - this is a members club so you have to be either a member or a friend of a member to gain access. Stunning Georgian town house built in the 17th century, it is a feast for the eye if you are into architecture and history. We had a family BBQ on a hot Sunday afternoon and it was amazing. A bottle of Riesling also went down very well!
I have had a very social month getting to know more and more people in my industry and it has been a lot of fun exploring new venues together. I also attended an influencer event BlogConLDN where I connected with 4 well fitted brands that I am hoping to work with further, some as influencer, some with photography commissions - but I can see potential in visual pleasure being created moving forward.
Lastly, I’d like to mention I met up with the talented & lovely @fleurandrea for brunch at 31 Below Marylebone early this week, all though mainly to chat and get together we also managed to get a few shots in. being at different ends of the influencer scale it was interesting to hear how she is making a career out of her blog and Instagram. No need to even say it, she is a pro!
Check out her work here,
Until next time….
